No one likes to feel like they're polluting the planet as they drive, but sometimes the Nissan LEAF isn't the car you need. Is being green in the automotive world all about electric vehicles?

A large chunk of a vehicle's carbon emissions over its lifetime actually comes from the manufacturing process itself, not daily driving. Nissan has been working to streamline its manufacturing process to produce new vehicles using less energy.

How do you make manufacturing more efficient?

You send teams of energy experts, called NESCO, to production plants around the world. Short for Nissan Energy Saving Collaboration, NESCO teams audit the plants and measure where and how energy is being used. Then, with critical areas identified, the teams suggest fixes.

Between 2005 and 2015, Nissan saved 331,184 tons of CO2. That much carbon would take 23,656,000 cedar trees to recycle!
