Nothing puts a damper on a road trip (or even just a drive down the street) than an unexpected vehicle breakdown.
Unfortunately, most breakdowns are unexpected as they often come in the form of an accidentally-drained battery or a nail in the tire. But you can be prepared with a roadside emergency kit. This will allow you to handle the temporary repairs required to go far enough to find help and it will give you the resources to wait safely until help comes to you.
These are a few items we think should always be in your car:
- Duct tape (ten-foot roll)
- Foam tire sealant
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Jumper cables
- Flare alternatives (battery-powered beacons or reflective warning triangles)
- Poncho
- Scissor jack
