Driving while distracted has become a serious problem among drivers since the introduction of cell phones and text messaging. According to the Department of Transportation, cell phones cause 1.6 million car accidents per year. That is why Nissan is starting a campaign called the Red Thumb Movement.

Gillman Nissan team in Rosenberg has taken the #RedThumb pledge and want to encourage drivers in the Katy, Houston and Sugar Land area to take the #RedThumb pledge and put down their phones while driving.

The average time a driver’s eyes are away from the road while texting or reading a text is five  seconds. In that five seconds, a driver can travel the length of a football field while going 55 mph

Texting while driving has catalyst of so many unnecessary accidents and deaths. Nissan is committed to safety. That is why they are trying to prevent as many accidents as possible with this movement and innovation. Every Nissan comes with safety features that were designed to prevent accidents like our Brake Override System, Safety Shield concept and NissanConnect which offers hands free text messaging capability.

The Red Thumb Movement was started by a man, Steve Babcock, because his daughter would tie a red string to her thumb to remind her of something. He painted his thumbnail red to remind him to not text and drive and it worked. Now thousands of people around the country are taking the #RedThumb challenge by marking their thumb red to remind them to not touch their phone while driving.

Join the Red Thumb Movement today and post your thumb on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to encourage others to do the same!
