It's a late night. The road is dark and your eyes are heavy. Slowly the wheel begins to drift. The rumble strip grazes your tires, alerting your mind that you are drifting off of the road.
Drowsy driving accounts for 20 percent of fatal accidents. According to studies conducted by the National Highway Transportation Safety Association and the American Automobile Association, "drowsy drivers are involved in approximately 300,000 crashes each year - "6,400 of them fatal."
Nissan understands the importance of driving safety and has developed and implemented a way to detect drowsy and inattentive driving. The Driver Attention Alert will be capable of detecting when a driver is exhibiting drowsy driving behaviors and can alert the driver.
Driver Attention Alert system
The DAA adapts to individual driving patterns and includes information that can detect drowsy driving behavior. The system is equipped with a way to detect when drivers are switching lanes, inclement weather, road curvatures and braking to avoid false detection.
When the DAA detects a driver exhibiting drowsy driving behavior, it alerts the driver by activating an audible chime and a coffee cup icon in the dash and even suggests the driver take a break from driving.
DAA is only a warning system to drivers and can be turned off.
